Regular dental cleanings and exams help prevent cavities, gum disease, and other dental problems. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends dental visits at least twice per year, but could be recommended every 3-4 months depending on your oral health. Regular exams and professional cleanings can help to ensure optimal oral and overall health. Professional cleanings go beyond the care you alone can achieve at home. During the appointment your hygienist will meticulously rid the teeth of harmful plaque and tartar build-up. This is important for preventing tooth decay, periodontal disease, and other oral health issues. |
Fluoride treatments are highly beneficial in strengthening tooth enamel and preventing tooth decay. Fluoride helps the tooth’s outer surface (the enamel) to stay strong and to fight against the acids that cause cavities and tooth decay. Fluoride is a mineral that's naturally present in many foods and water. If you have a history of cavities, chronic dry mouth, deep pits, fissures, or exposed root surfaces, we may recommend fluoride treatment. Fluoride treatment is also often given to children at their biannual dentist appointments to help their teeth grow strong and to protect their smiles from cavities. You can also get fluoride naturally from tap water, mouth rinses, and by using toothpaste that contains fluoride. |
Laser Bacterial Reduction |
Laser bacterial reduction (also referred to as LBR) is a common procedure that is recommended during routine cleanings, as it prevents bacteria from infiltrating sensitive gum tissue and infecting the area around the teeth. You may need laser bacterial reduction if you have gingivitis or gum disease. Laser bacterial reduction uses a non-cutting laser that is painless yet effective which is aimed directly into the gingival pockets that form around the teeth eradicating bacteria in this area, preventing the spread and progression of gum disease. |
A night guard is a plastic appliance worn at night either on the top or bottom arch that allows you to sleep comfortably, while protecting your teeth from erosive habits. Clenching or grinding your teeth at night, can damage the enamel of your teeth. The Night Guard is designed to protect the teeth from the pressure of clenching and grinding, by providing a protective cushion between the upper and lower teeth. Therefore, a night guard is a simple, non-invasive, affordable treatment option for protecting your teeth and jaws from the damaging effects of clenching and grinding (known as Bruxism) and chronic jaw pain. The appliance can help relax your jaw and allow you to rest easy. A nightguard is also the most common treatment option for the symptoms of TMD. |
Oral cancer is a type of cancer that affects the tissues in the mouth and throat. This can include the lips, tongue, cheeks, gums, hard and soft palate, sinuses, and pharynx. Oral cancer appears as a growth or sore in the mouth that does not go away. Oral cancer screenings can detect early signs of the disease, which gives you a better chance of successful treatment. While oral cancer is relatively rare, it is important to get screened for it on a regular basis. |
Dental x-rays are utilized to evaluate your oral health by capturing images of the interior of your teeth and gums. These X-rays can assist in identifying issues beneath the surface such as cavities, tooth decay, and impacted teeth. |
Dental sealants are a type of preventive treatment that helps protect the teeth from cavities and decay. Sealants are made of a plastic resin that is applied to the chewing surfaces of the permanent back teeth - the molars and premolars - to help protect them from bacteria and acids that contribute to tooth decay. It takes only a few minutes for your dentist or hygienist to apply a sealant to each tooth. The sealant forms a protective barrier over the enamel, which helps keep food and plaque from getting trapped in the crevices of the teeth. Dental sealants are a non-invasive and effective way to prevent cavities in the hard-to-reach areas of your mouth. Sealants typically last 3-5 years but can last up to 10 years and require minimal care. Brushing and flossing regularly will keep them clean. Sealants can occasionally become loose, but they can easily be reapplied during a dental appointment. Sealants can reduce tooth decay by up to 70%, and are a great way to prevent the need for expensive restorative treatment later in life.
